X3 - Cheruskerweg

After a short visit to the hiking competence center WALK and a climb to the Hermannsdenkmal with its panoramic views all around, we start our hike down towards the city of Detmold in the direction of the LWL Open-Air Museum, the largest open-air museum in Germany with around 90 hectares. Along the Friedrichstaler Canal and the moat, we reach the Princely Residenzschloss and pass by the State Theater (built in 1825 by Prince Leopold II).
We leave the historic city center of Detmold, passing through Rotenberg and Biesterberg (NSG), past Schloss Brake (a water castle of Weser Renaissance), and reach the old Hanseatic city center of Lemgo, characterized by well-preserved half-timbered houses. The Cheruskerweg continues to lead us north through vast forests, touching the mountain village of Talle, and ascending to the Bonstapel on the border with the city of Vlotho - 342 meters above sea level, enjoying the beautiful view.
We hike through the small baths of Senkelteich and Seebruch in the Linnenbeeke valley, over Saalegge and Winterberg down to Vlotho. The hiking trail continues towards Bad Oeynhausen. We stroll through the spa park to the Werrebrücke, passing by Schloss Ovelgönne and through the spa park of Bad Oexen. We climb up to the Wiehengebirgskamm and reach the destination of our hike. For those who wish to continue hiking, follow the E 11 or the Wittekindsweg from here on the ridge of the Wiehengebirge.
