Description by the author

The dreamy resort of Waldsieversdorf in the popular hiking region of Märkische Schweiz is less well known. Here, a few kilometers east of Berlin, you will find the ideal combination of nature experience, hiking and swimming fun and hardly frequented paths. This short, relaxed half-day tour is a real insider tip - especially for nature-loving families!

Your late riser excursion:
Close to nature and quiet: on the move in the smallest and oldest nature park in Brandenburg Varied: stalking on the riverside path and through the forest and discovering new things along the way Bathing fun at hidden natural bathing spots or playing and chilling in the idyllic lido Iconic: arrive with the historic Buckower Kleinbahn
Start and finish: Waldsieversdorf bus stop (village) or Waldsieversdorf train station
Length: 6 km / 2 h
Access to public transport: RB26 from Ostkreuz / Lichtenberg to Müncheberg, continue with the 928 bus to Waldsieversdorf (village) or alternatively with the Buckower Kleinbahn (01.05.-03.10. On weekends and public holidays) to the Waldsieversdorf stop.
Departure public transport: Bus 928 or Buckower Kleinbahn to Müncheberg, then RB26 (hourly) towards Berlin

In the nature park Märkische Schweiz
The regional train takes you quickly out of the city and into the nature park Märkische Schweiz. Change briefly in Müncheberg and the bus will drop you off in idyllic Waldsieversdorf after only 7 minutes. The villa colony near Buckow exudes a soothing serenity and tranquility.
It starts at the "WaldKAuTZ" opposite the bus stop. You walk around the large and small Däbersee and come back to Waldsieversdorf. Alternatively, you can also travel with the Buckower Kleinbahn and hike the tour from the stop in reverse order. The ride on the old museum train is a highlight in itself. Perhaps you can also look over the shoulder of the train driver ?!

View from the water tower and then down the ladder to heaven
The path takes you a short distance on the nature park route through Dahmsdorfer Straße and sour cherry avenue to the water tower. Be sure to go up and take the free panoramic view of the place and the wooded landscape with you. There is also something interesting to learn about the region. Finally, you climb 555 steps down the sky ladder towards the lake.

Monkey swing and beaver tracks
Now you go on a beaten path into the forest. You will notice the hill between the large and the small Däbersee. Here you can climb up and look for the remains of a Slavic castle complex. In the event of danger, it served as a refuge for the surrounding settlers. It was also used during the Thirty Years' War and was given the name Schwedenschanze. The view from above over the lake is particularly beautiful.
At the bottom of the riverside path, don't forget the monkey swing on the Kleiner Däbersee. Who dares and swings like Tarzan on a rope over the water and lets himself fall into the refreshing water? Some dreamy natural bathing areas and small benches invite you to linger. Do you see the beaver tracks on the trees? The largest rodent in Europe and the best lumberjack of all time is clearly at home here.
Your tour will also pass the John Heartfield House, the founder of modern photo montage and friend of the famous poet Bertolt Brecht. An information board indicates the possibility of a visit.

Bathing fun and pedal boat action
Towards the end of the tour, the charming public bath on the Großer Däbersee awaits you. In addition to a beautiful sunbathing lawn with a sandy beach, the great slide and diving tower attract the brave among you. If that's not enough, rent a pedal boat or rowboat and set off to sea!

Troll Bernhard and the plucked cake at Tilia
If you are hungry after the tour and really like good cake, stop by Café Tilia. Homemade cakes are served under old linden trees. Tip: try Russian plucked cake! Also take a look across the street. Here Troll Bernhard points out a special kind of garden fence. You will find a mini open-air museum at the entrance to Seestraße 2. A geologist couple has exhibited more than 50 stones from the Ice Age and lovingly labeled them. It's exciting to see what the ice cream pushed here from Scandinavia back then!

What time is it?
If you don't have a watch with you: Waldsieversdorf can help out! Two special places show the time. On the way back to the bus stop, at Dahmsdorfer Straße 28, you can marvel at the large flower clock from the Heinze watchmaker family. A short detour around the corner and you will see an equatorial sundial that a local blacksmith made in over 1,000 hours of work. It shows you the current solar time for Waldsieversdorf.

Plan your late riser tour to Märkische Schweiz now!
