Nature trail Netzen

The nature trail runs directly along the Rietzer See nature reserve. Here, during the autumn bird migration season, thousands of greylag geese and cranes gather for their flight south. An impressive spectacle for young and old alike.
The entertaining triangular route runs as a wide field path from the bridge over the Emsterkanal to the village of Netzen and from there, skirting the Netzen Lake, back. While strolling leisurely, the view can roam freely to the right and left over meadows and fields into the distance, occasionally catching sight of a sea eagle in the sky. Even overwintering cranes can be observed throughout the entire hike.
At twelve clearly designed stations, visitors learn a lot of information about this part of the Havelland region and about the peculiarities of the lakes and moorland found here. At the beginning of the tour, several stations focus on the Havelland cultural landscape. It's about stone heaps and Benjes hedges as habitats for small animals, about animal cultural followers, or about the development of agriculture in the past two hundred years.
As if on cue, the cows of Netzen stand at the wayside and curiously eye the passing hikers. Further along the nature trail, the stations explain typical animals and plants of this open landscape and their interdependencies in nature. In the last stretch of the path, you catch a glimpse of trees lining the shore of the Netzen Lake. At the Emsterkanal itself, several stations provide information about the wildlife in and around the water. It's mainly about beavers and otters, which particularly enjoy this environment. By taking a closer look, you can spot the beaver's work traces here and there.
TIP: You should definitely plan a short walk to the bird observation tower at Strengsee! With the provided binoculars, you can observe the countless waterfowl and record them in the accompanying observation book.
