Around the Böttchers Moor

First, we head towards the Schlatt until we reach the footbridge and take a look at the water. We return and walk clockwise around the area, so we walk a short distance back towards Leeste, then turn right and circle the "moor" on a narrow path. On the opposite side, we reach the water directly, where there is also an explanatory panel about the formation of this body of water.

After a short rest on the bench, we walk back a short distance and take a small path to the right between two properties, which leads us to the "Rumpsfelder Heide." Here we turn right, then right at the next corner, and now we are at the former transformer house, which today is a refuge for bats and owls. We follow a short section of grass path. At the end, we turn left and head towards the next small wooded area. We cross it to the road "Hinter dem Feld" and return between the edge of the forest and the meadow.

Now, instead of taking the grass path back to the road, we enter the small forest, turn right immediately, and at the end turn right again towards the transformer house. Opposite, we pass a wooden barrier and enter a nature trail that leads us back to the starting point. Sturdy footwear is recommended.

This walk can be extended by taking a longer route through the Leester meadows. We see a "Schlatt," a depression formed during the Ice Age without drainage, now threatened by drying out. There are also remnants of forest strips that demarcated areas from each other, as well as new reforestation with conifers, oaks, birches, and beech trees created as compensatory areas. These plantings are planned to be expanded up to the Melchiorshauser Fuhren. A short forest nature trail has been laid out parallel to the road. The Nabu station is open once a month on Sundays during the summer months, with dates published in the newspaper or on the municipality's website. Guided tours are also possible at other times by appointment.
