Saltgitter hiking trail No. 27 (Lichtenberg Castle ruins and Geopfad)

On hiking route 27 there are numerous interesting points. Right at the beginning at the hiking parking lot there is a memorial. From here you can enjoy a great view of the northern part of the city. For the tour, you should pack some food, as many benches along the trail invite you to take a break. After the gravelled wide forest paths, a forest path later leads uphill to the ruins of Lichtenberg Castle. For some time, the path runs parallel to the Salzgitter-Lichtenberg geotrail, and it also passes by a mountain bike trail that is currently being planned. Towards the end of the route, you reach the area of the ruins of Lichtenberg Castle. In front of the adjacent Forest Hotel Burgberg is stamping point No. 19 of the Northern Harz Foreland Tourism Association. On the premises, a supporting association offers guided tours on selected dates. The descent is via a steep path through the forest, but you can also comfortably return to the hiking parking lot via the access road.
