On the traces of the industry
For over 150 years, our region has been shaped by the "iron industry". The tour starts at Peine train station and passes by the steelworks, which became world famous for the "Peiner Träger". You then cycle to the "Ilseder Hütte", where ores from Ilsede and Lengede were once melted down. The museum "Zeiträume Bodenstedt" makes the culturally and politically significant backgrounds of the last 130 years accessible with modern technology. Impressive traces can also be found at the end of this tour in Lengede. Here, the memorial and the exhibition in the Lengede town hall commemorate the mining history as well as the tragic mining disaster of 1963 and the "miracle of Lengede".
