Description by the author

There is a hiking trail that is especially entertaining for children, taking in the tranquil municipality of Schönwalde-Glien. The Forest Gnome Trail (Waldwichtelpfad) is not only suitable for young hikers, however, it is also excellent for an active walk with the whole family. You can’t miss the entrance directly on Fehrbelliner Strasse opposite the playground.

Along the blossoming meadow path there are several well-booked insect hotels to admire right at the start. After this, concentration is required to balance along various tree trunks. Meanwhile there are individual display panels with information about dragonflies, songbirds and other inhabitants of the open landscape. Look – wild boar tracks! It’s over there behind the tree! Phew! That was lucky: it was only the deceptively realistic image of a boar. Keep your eyes open and you will come across other forest animals along the way. From the child-friendly observation tower, the little ones have a great view of the adjacent paddock. On the sandy field path there are lots of real animal tracks to explore, too – before the action starts at the next station. A good place for a break. A little further on through the forest you will reach Fehrbelliner Strasse again, which you now cross to enter the shady deciduous forest. Skill is required to keep the high see-saw going in pairs – and looking good on the balance trainer is not that simple either. Several small stations provide information on the animals in the surrounding forest, and you walk almost imperceptibly under high trees through this quiet area until you come to a clearing and reach a small lake – though not without first meeting Little Red Riding Hood and the wolf. The lido is freely accessible – the perfect place to cool your feet or take a dip to finish off. Just a few hundred metres further on you come to the starting point of the walk. If you still have energy left, you can let off steam on the spacious playground.
