The circular trail around Lindau is perfect for families and people who might not be used to long hikes. On the 5 km long trail you can experience one of the most important rivers of the Fläming region, the Nuthe river, discover a huge boulder called "Teufelsstein", have a look at large scale forest conversion and discover the small town of Lindau. Castle Linda is the starting and also the end point of this nice walk.
Route description:
Start at castle Lindau which has parking spaces and and information board regarding the trail. Follow the trail around the the castle and stroll alongside the Nuthe river until the foot trail reaches the main street. Turn left along the quiet country road and pass the ruins of a former health establishment that used locally sourced mud and mineral springs for health applications. Shortly after the former health area you turn left into the woods. Old, impressive oak trees are making way for smaller species like larch, spruce and hazel trees. The bare area is dedicated to large scale forest conversion to restore the historic forest stand of basswood, beech trees, hornbeam and forest oak.
Further on in the direction of Lietzo we the highlight of the tour that escpecially children really love. The huge Teufelsstein boulder came here about 200'000 years ago with Saale glaciation all the way from Scandinavia. It weighs about 30 tons and gives an impressions of the forces at work during the glacial periods. There is also a myth surrounding the boulder. It is said that underneath the big stone lies a golden chain that is long enough to be wrapped around the old city of Lindau multiple times. But everyone who tries to dig for the chain will be chased away by a black billy goat.
The quaint cobblestone street leads back into the town center of Lindau with its late romanic church and the pretty castle which means we are back were we started the walk.
