Just a stone's throw from the city center of Brandenburg an der Havel lie the Gördensee and Bohnenländer See lakes, dreamily and quietly nestled in an extensive forest area. They are not only a popular recreational area but also an attractive hiking area.
The shore path first winds along the long eastern shore of Gördensee. In addition to the natural bathing beach, you will find many small access points to the water here, which allow you wide views over the calm water. Soon, the water surface is displaced by wetland. By creating an artificial outflow at the south end, the lake gradually silts up. You can observe the silting process well along the way. Once you have passed the reed belt, sedges and alders initially shape the landscape. Later, rowan trees and oaks are added. Finally, at the northern point of the lake, a multi-layered mixed forest accompanies you. A connecting path on which you cross a railway line and the B102 leads you to Bohnenländer See. It is significantly smaller than its neighbor and appears almost untouched. Only at the small settlement of Bohnenland does the forest open up access to the water. The circumnavigation of the lake is a varied natural experience. Water lilies spread out. A broad reed belt lines almost the entire shore and offers various water birds a home. The slope on the east bank rises steeply in places, so that the hiking trail narrows to a narrow path that requires some surefootedness. In the shady beech mixed forest, you can look up to some ancient tree giants.
After circumnavigating Bohnenländer See, you return along the connecting path to Gördensee. On its west bank, you are in good company with runners and walkers who also appreciate the circular route. At some fitness stations, you can test your skills before returning to the starting point.
TIP: At Bohnenländer See, a short detour to the "Schwedenwälle" is recommended. It is a several hundred meters long ground monument and remains of the late medieval defensive structure of Brandenburg.
