Brown cattle, farmers and nobility Find out what they have to do with each other and why cows and their owners are real heroes in the natural treasure troves on this tour.

They are popular photo motifs: the Allgäu brown cattle and the other cows grazing on blooming meadows in front of snow-covered mountains. Unbeatably idyllic. But they have other qualities besides looking nice: without their hours of grazing, the Allgäu would have long since become overgrown with bushes and mostly wooded. So they do a heroic job every day - and so do their owners, who look after and manage the fertile land and forests. The farmers have created a cultural landscape that has a unique character with its wide meadows, wooded hills, moors, rivers and lakes. The starting point of the tour is exciting: Wolfegg - with its magnificent buildings and a Renaissance castle, it doesn't look at all rural. It is the ancestral seat of the noble house of Waldburg-Wolfegg. The castle would probably never have existed had it not been for the peasants. Until they rebelled, it was common practice throughout the country for them to work in the fields and forests of the nobility, helping them to become wealthy through their taxes. A tribute to their work is the farmhouse museum in the same village, which shows the rural cultural history of the region in historic farmhouses. With this knowledge, you cycle through the vast landscape, which is dotted with farmsteads, orchards, open stables and cows and offers many unobstructed views of the Alpine panorama, in a completely different way.
