A for adventure A wild river, a dark heart and a few rugged stone giants? There you have it - an exciting loop that runs between these natural treasures.

From above, it looks more like a triangle loosely spanned between three poles: Argen, Adelegg and the Alps. Before you have to conquer 281 meters of altitude over the 40 kilometers, you can first relax and enjoy the river. The Untere Argen is always close by in the first third. There it meanders resolutely but gently through lush greenery, boggy wetlands and species-rich nature reserves. As a wild river, it always forms a unit with floodplains and cultivated landscape. No two river meanders are alike. There are only a few such habitats left in Europe today. Villages and farmsteads are embedded in lush meadows, while the Nagelfluhkette mountain range with the striking Hochgrat ridge is always visible to the south. From close up, its rock looks like a baked mass of small, pointed stones. It once played an important role in the dark heart of the Allgäu: the Adelegg. From a bird's eye view, the forest mountain range, which covers over 100 square kilometers and is an outpost of the Allgäu Alps between open meadows, looks like a dark green island. The quartz-containing Nagelfluh rock and the abundance of wood helped the Adelegg to develop its very own piece of cultural history: glassmaking, which is now being rediscovered in the former glassmaking villages.
