A tip first: cycle this route with large saddlebags! Apples, potatoes, jam, juice, eggs, carved wooden goods - if you enjoy snacking and shopping along the way, then you've come to the right place. Numerous direct marketers have set up stalls with their harvest and handmade products, where you can help yourself or buy from farm stores. A nice little "chat" is part of the experience. The route is also a scenic delight, even if you can make good use of the culinary treasures for the 490 meters of elevation gain over the 44 kilometers. A large part of the route runs along the edge of the valleys and so you cycle mostly on top with a (gourmet) view of the Alpine panorama. In fact, you only need to keep an eye on the imposing Waldburg castle to stay on track. It sits enthroned on a drumlin from the Würm Ice Age above the sea of hills, forests and meadows and can be seen many times along the route. A detour to the ancestral castle of the original Guelph-Staufer noble family of Waldburg is definitely worthwhile. This is because the Naturschatzkammern region is also home to an important cultural and historical treasure: under the Hohenstaufen Emperor Frederick II, the imperial jewels were kept there around 1220. Today, replicas of the imperial crown, orb, lance and sceptre are on display, while the originals are kept in the Vienna Hofburg.
