Description by the author

On this tour you will discover old farming villages, burial mounds, and the monastery in Medingen. Before you start cycling in the Bevenser Kurpark, take a look at the large sundial. From then on, you have about one and a half hours of cycling ahead of you - plus breaks and short detours to sights along the way. You ride out of Bad Bevensen through the Ilmenau meadows to Klein Bünstorfer Heide. Here you will find one of the largest burial mound fields in the Lüneburg Heath with 59 preserved graves. Take a breath at the Löns memorial stone and continue. You cross the Ilmenau, pass by Klein Bünstorf, and along the nature reserve "Der Lohn" with a light-filled beech forest. The next stop is Tätendorf-Eppensen. Here the fruit barn invites you to stop for a break. Strengthened, you cycle to Barum, where in the center stands St. Georg, a church made of field and brick stones from the 11th/12th century. Visit daily from Easter to Thanksgiving, Tel. 05806-245. Heading north, you continue to Seedorf, where many agricultural buildings are under monument protection, as well as some huge oaks and beech trees. The village community center was built in 1879 as a primary school and is now a school museum. Open upon request, Tel. 05821-7310. Behind Seedorf, the circular tour continues to Addenstorfer Heide, where there is a Bronze Age burial mound field (around 1500 BC) with 45 burial mounds. To the east, the tour takes you to Jelmstorf and then to Medingen with its monastery, which houses treasures such as the Abbess' crozier from 1494, the golden reliquary statue of St. Mauritius from the 15th century, silver, porcelain, old chests, and cabinets. The monastery can be visited on a guided tour, Tel. 05821-967838. From Medingen it is not far to the destination of Bad Bevensen, passing by Rießelmanns Kuhle, where according to legend, a sunken castle lies. In Bad Bevensen, you can relax wonderfully: in the Kurpark, in the Jod-Sole-Therme, or while strolling through the town. Route information: mostly low-traffic asphalt roads, often accompanied by cycle paths. Some sections on field and forest paths. Undulating terrain, short sections with gradients of up to 5%.
