When Richard Wagner retreated to Graupa during his work on the opera Lohengrin in 1846 in order to have peace and quiet for his composition, he also went on several hikes in the nearby Liebethaler Grund. It is said that this romantic valley was also a source of inspiration for him. Today, the Malerweg trail leads along here, and near the now ruined Lochmühle mill, the impressive Wagner monument created by Professor Richard Guhr bears witness to the composer's stay. The varied hike through the shady, cool valley is particularly recommended after a long dry spell and in hot midsummer. If the ascent on sandstone paving from Lochmühle to Mühlsdorf is too steep for you, you can use the same route for the way back.
