Following the traces of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Upper Harz Water Management System"
The winter hiking trail starts on the opposite side of the Dreibrode parking lot.
From there, you quickly reach a crossroads where the water of the Rehberger ditch meets that of the Sonnenberger ditch. You continue along the Rehberger ditch to the National Park Forest Restaurant "Rehberger Grabenhaus". On certain days and times, you can watch the feeding of the red deer here. You can also learn more about the "Upper Harz Water Management System" through a small exhibition.
Your hike then takes you further through a high forest. At some points, you can enjoy charming views down to the Oder Valley or to the Hahnenklee Cliffs. Numerous information boards explain the history of the ditch system, which has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
You continue hiking along the Rehberger ditch to Goetheplatz, where you can see beautiful granite formations. After passing by small waterfalls and reaching the Sarghai Hut, you will arrive at your destination, the Oderteich. The Oderteich was built from 1715 to 1722 and is the oldest Harz reservoir, also part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Upper Harz Water Management System".
