The forest sports path, very popular with the people of Paderborn, leads through a wooded area along the banks of the fish ponds. The path is marked every 100 meters with the distance covered and has two large illuminated clocks.
The Paderborn fish ponds, like all Paderborn lakes, are artificially created and are fed by an artesian well: A pipeline goes about 100 meters into the ground here. The water seeps from the limestone at this depth without pumps to the surface, flows through a pipeline into the first fish pond, and from there into the lower ponds.
The six ponds surrounded by forest form the core of the popular recreational area of the fish ponds. Here, along the forest sports path, there is a playground, a climbing park, a rowboat rental, a mini golf course, and a restaurant.
