Through the alder marsh and the old village Kirchweyhe

We start at the Sudweyher Water Mill, head towards Sudweyhe and turn left into "Achter de Beeke". Along the Beeke, we pass by the old farms of Sudweyhe, the "Finterei" is worth a short detour as there are beautiful half-timbered houses here. We cross the tracks of the Huchting to Thedinghausen narrow-gauge railway and from here we see the Sudweyher train station. Finally, we turn left, with a stately estate in front of us, and walk to the Hache. On the left, we mostly see some exotic animals kept in a small "private zoo" here.

A bridge crosses the Hache, we head towards the Felicianus Church and pass by a memorial stone commemorating the first documented mention of Weyhe. We admire the church tower, the oldest building in Weyhe. We walk along the old churchyard towards the "Kirchplatz", turn left here and pass by two farms. To our right now lies the Kirchweyher Lake, where the Süstedter Bach and Hache converge. After that point, the river is called the Ochtum.

Arriving at the entrance road to Kirchweyhe, we turn left and walk to the war memorial. There, we carefully cross the street and take the footpath opposite, the "Kirchweg". We soon come across the "Dobbenweg", turn right until we reach the street "Scharmarsch". We turn left again until we reach the village street. We turn left again until we reach the Kirchweyher street. We cross it, take the Wischweg, turn left at the end and then right. Finally, we have reached the path leading to the Felicianus Church. We keep to the right, this time not crossing the Hache, but following the path through the Ellernbruch. Lastly, we reach the street "Im Mühlengrunde" and turn left back to the starting point.

On this short walk, which requires sturdy footwear due to mostly muddy spots in the Ellernbruch, we see the old farms of Sudweyhe and Kirchweyhe. With luck, you might see a horse peeking out from the first Klöntür. Some trees had to be cut down along the Beeke. The partly high stumps still stand and provide shelter for many animals. "Die Finterei" gathers a collection of half-timbered buildings, one of which is an old farm that was dismantled on the Kirchweyher street. After the last farm, we find ourselves on an ancient path to the church, which the Sudweyher churchgoers used to walk.

Passing by the old farms of Kirchweyhe, we notice that the church was once located in the middle of the village. The footpath "Kirchweg" leads to the village street, its extension Schulweg leads from the elementary school to the Moordammbrücke. At "Am Dobben" we see a farm elevated on a "Wurt", as there were old Weser arms here that used to cause flooding. Today, ditches ensure drainage.

The Ellernbruch (Ellern = Alders) is an old small forest that was laid out as an estate park in the 18th century. Shortly after the bridge, there are some gigantic beech trees. Opposite the water mill is an old estate, the Sudweyher Gut, unfortunately now without a manor house, which was demolished due to disrepair. In 2020, a senior residence was built on the site. The water mill is a venue for the Weyhe community. On weekends, the mill is usually open for exhibitions. And on Sunday afternoons, the café in the "Kulturbahnhof Sudweyhe" opens.
