Charcoal burner's trail

Through numerous display boards, you will learn about the history of the Köhler family Wagener, the structure and function of a charcoal burner, the traditional forest pasture land use system called "Hauberg," and the history of charcoal. The tools of the charcoal burner and technical terms related to charcoal burning are also explained vividly.

The starting and ending point of this circular hike is the nature park parking lot "Köhlerplatz" on the L719 road above Walpersdorf. The trail leads past a charcoal burner site into the Sieg valley, then further into a side valley and to another Köhlerplatz with a charcoal burner's hut. Passing the outskirts of Walpersdorf, the path goes through the forest back to the starting point.

The Köhlerpfad trail is marked with the sign A1. At some trail crossings, wooden signposts also indicate the direction. For entertainment during the tour, there is the Köhler quiz, available directly at the first display board of the Köhlerpfad. The trail is suitable for children aged 6 and above. Due to the natural terrain, a stroller suitable for off-road terrain is recommended.
