The Roman Canal hiking trail leads along the Roman Canal from Nettersheim in the Eifel region to Cologne in the Rhineland over a distance of 116 km. On four of the total seven individual stages, almost two-thirds of the route can be "hiked" in the Rhineland Nature Park.
The start of the fourth stage is literally promising - right at the beginning of the hike, it goes steeply uphill.
From the rocky spur high above Kreuzweingarten, you can not only enjoy a fantastic view of the valley but also look back into history. The ring wall located here is evidence that this exposed location was already used as a settlement during the Iron Age.
Next stop is the Hardtburg - and shortly after, the landscape changes. Unobstructed views can soar over the open landscape and only meet impressive mountain ranges in the distance.
