Espelkamp - Across the countryside to the castle

This route invites you to enjoy a relaxed drive through the magnificent landscape west of Espelkamp. Starting from Wilhelm-Kern-Platz - the city center - the route leads through the northwestern residential areas to Kleihügel. Along the way, you pass through the forest and reach the Große Aue and the leisure and bathing lake at Kleihügel. The route then continues along side streets past picturesque fields, meadows, and old farmhouses to Fiestel and Benkhausen. A visit to the Gasthaus Rose is a perfect stop for a break. Here, you also have the opportunity to play a round of farmer's golf. In Benkhausen, visitors will find a historic building - the Benkhausen Castle. Today, it is used as a training center and hotel. The former barn houses an automaton museum with some unique exhibits found only in Germany. A beautiful park, a hiking trail, and a burial mound of the von dem Bussche-Münch family invite you for a walk. The castle also features a restaurant and a café with a beer garden. The final leg of the journey takes you back through the countryside, through Fabbenstedt into the Wongebiet der Langen Horst, where you can end your trip at one of the many local eateries.
