Dummewiesen-Weg

Between the village of Bergen (Dumme) and the village of Jiggel, the river Dumme winds its way northward with its many twists and turns. For nature lovers, the family-friendly Dummewiesen circular path is a true delight: it leads through a vibrant cultural landscape with numerous bodies of water, where small viewing platforms invite you to linger. In the summer, hundreds of banded demoiselle dragonflies buzz through the air here, and through an audio station, you can even listen to some frog calls. And perhaps you will also catch a glimpse of the kingfisher! Along the way lies the circular village of Jiggel, whose water mill is located above a ford that can still be crossed today. Also historically interesting is the village of Bergen an der Dumme, which you pass through on your hike. At the old border and customs checkpoint, an information board provides insight into the former border situation, and from the observation tower, you have a magnificent view of the Drawehn Heights, an ice-age terminal moraine landscape.
