The Salzgittersee is located at the western edge of Salzgitter-Lebenstedt, where the Fuhse and the Flothe rivers converge. It was created between 1960 and 1975 through gravel extraction. The lake is about two kilometers long and 800 meters wide. The island in the lake can be reached via a conspicuously designed bridge on the western side of the lake. The Salzgittersee offers many opportunities for sports enthusiasts as well as nature lovers.
