Between Reihersee and Bismarck Tower

The hike Nature Atlas SZ 5: From Reihersee to Bismarck Tower is attractive in every season. On the ridge, limestone comes to the surface at some points, providing a direct view into the millions of years of geological history. Fungi, snails, spiders, and wood-dwelling insects can be observed well on the numerous deadwood. For example, the tinder fungus with its hoof-shaped fruiting bodies is very common. In spring, we are delighted by the early bloomers, in summer by numerous insects, and in autumn by the various fruits that reveal the different propagation forms of plants. The path leads past impressive European beech trees, as well as sycamore maples, sessile oaks, ash trees, and other trees. Hazelnut shrubs and blackthorn bushes can be found at open spots, as well as the slow-growing mezereon, which blooms as early as late February.
