This tour starts at the Alte Regierung on the Weserglacis. The building of the Alte Regierung is the former district government of the Principality of Minden and currently houses parts of the city administration such as the registry office and the youth welfare office. On your way north, you pass by the monument of the Great Elector to the parking lot Schlagde, where ships docked during the time of the Hanseatic League and had to offer their cargo according to the then applicable staple right. On the Weser Cycle Path, you ride along the Fischerstadt to the Schachtschleuse and the newly built Weserschleuse, which also allows modern, large cargo ships to overcome the difference in height between the Weser and Mittellandkanal.
When you ride your bike through the waterway cross, you can view this impressive structure from a different perspective. Back on the Weser Cycle Path, you pass by the Nordfriedhof to Todtenhausen, where on August 1, 1759, 2 coalitions from Great Britain, Prussia, Brunswick-Lüneburg, Hesse-Kassel, and France were at war. A monument still commemorates this today, and every year the day is commemorated with a wreath-laying ceremony.
On the way towards Petershagen, the Heisterholz extends to the left with its former clay industry, from which the mosaic of the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in Berlin also comes. You pass by the Büschingsche Mühle, which offers fresh cakes on grinding and baking days.
During your ride through the old town center of Petershagen, pay special attention to the "Alte Amtsgericht," built in the Neo-Renaissance style in 1913. Today, you can find a cultural meeting place and a unique accommodation option there: Rest in Jail. At the exit of the village, you will find the over 700-year-old Petershagen Castle, built by Bishop Gottfried von Waldeck, which now houses a hotel and restaurant.
Your tour continues to Ovenstädt at the industrial museum "Glashütte Gernheim." Here you can observe the transformation of glowing glass mass into a clear, gracefully shaped vessel. Workers' houses and an old basket weaving show how arduous and spartan life must have been at the beginning of the 19th century.
Along the loop of the Weser, you reach the village of Hävern. There, from April to October, you have the opportunity to cross the Weser with the solar ferry "Petra Solara" to marvel at a special feature of the region on the other side of the river: The Stork Museum. The fact that the white stork is back home here could only be achieved thanks to many efforts.
On your way back to Minden, you can once again admire the vastness of the Weser meadows and maybe even a few storks in Jössen. You pass by the Lahde power plant and the Lahder weir, which regulates the water level of the Weser. Along the Lahder Mühle and the bathing lake, you ride through Frille and Wietersheim along the Mittellandkanal to Leteln and follow the course of Friedrich-Wilhelm-Straße to the Minden city center.
