The stage covers about 15 kilometers and has an altitude difference of about 300 meters. The route offers moderate ascents and descents.

Important for families: The route is also very suitable for families with children. The first part on the promenade is even accessible with a stroller.

The stage mainly leads through wooded areas that offer pleasant shade on warm summer days. From the Bielefeld promenade, there are wide views over the city. Fun fact: The ridge path is called "Promenade" on its first part from Sparrenburg.

Side note: Almost unnoticed, you cross the 52nd parallel on the way to Oerlinghausen.

Highlights on the route

Sparrenburg in Bielefeld is an impressive castle complex from the 13th century. It towers on a hill above the old town. The castle is the landmark of Bielefeld and one of the most popular destinations in the region. A visit to the information center at the castle and the Anna & Hermann listening station just outside the castle grounds on the promenade is worthwhile.

The "Iron Anton" is one of the few metallic Bismarck towers, built in 1895 and faithfully restored in 2003. The observation tower is located east of Bielefeld on Ebberg on the Hermannsweg and offers views to the north and south over the Teutoburg Forest.

The Romanesque-built Alexander Church in Oerlinghausen is a noteworthy church in the heart of the old town. Special attention is deserved by the organ with its carved prospect from 1688, the colorful stained glass windows in the church choir, and the oldest bell in the parish from 1547.
