Description by the author

Sporty circular tour through forests, meadows, and up to the ObernbergThe view sweeps from the Kurparksee over the arm-Kneipp pool to the tree-lined path through the landscaped garden. There is a cheerful hustle and bustle at the lake, people stroll leisurely along the shore or sit on the cozy loungers.

The approximately 10 km long hiking trail initially runs through the landscaped garden and branches off from the VitaSol thermal baths uphill towards Obernberg. At the parking lot of the VitaSol thermal baths, we cross Exterstrasse and follow a forest path to the last rows of houses in the residential area.

Arriving at the Obernberg parking lot, we enjoy the view over the roofs and direct our attention to the Salzufler city forest and the Obernberg. A gentle, straight ascent leads to the Obernberg (210 m).

Arriving at the Obernberg, green shrubs and ground-covering plants accompany the hiking trail.
Transition to the Herford city forest at the viaductA hiking and cycling bridge crosses the highway and takes nature lovers into the Herford city forest. Parallel to the highway, the hiking trail winds its way north.

Soon the Finnebachtal bridge, built of red Eifel sandstone, appears. Built in 1938 and 1939, it was widened from 57 to 38 meters as part of the expansion of the A2 after 57 years. It is an architectural masterpiece and has been under monument protection since 1988.

After a photo break at the viaduct, we stroll gently downhill along the idyllic forest path. At the southern edge of the Heerhofer golf course, we occasionally hear a golf swing and chirping birds in the trees. Through shady deciduous forest into the romantic FinnebachtalThe hiking trail continues through the shady beech and deciduous forest in the Finnebachtal.

At the rustic and cozy forest restaurant "Zur Loose," in addition to a cozy snack or a tasty lunch, a round of mini-golf in the shady forest is also appealing.

Well fortified, the hiking trail runs parallel to Exterstrasse, the former narrow-gauge railway track. We immerse ourselves again in the lush green of the landscaped garden. Surrounded by old plane trees, we walk through the remarkable and varied Salze valley.

Along the way, we encounter the memorial stone for Sebastian Kneipp and enjoy the bird aviaries with the birds chirping eagerly. Why bees are so important to usOn display boards, we read about exciting background information about bees. How important pollination by bees is for the spread of food, more about the different bee species or their behavior.

Refreshment at the Kneipp foot basin in the landscaped gardenIn the landscaped garden, next to the meditation circle, there is a soothing foot-Kneipp basin. In stork walk fashion, we take advantage of this pleasant refreshment after the interesting hike over the Obernberg and through the Finnebachtal.
Only a few steps lie ahead of us as we reach the destination on the northern shore of the Kurparksee.

For the conclusion of the hiking day, make use of the Bad Salzufler gastronomy or relax in the colorful blooming Kurpark on a lounger by the Salze.
