Climate cycling route Bünde

The Climate Cycling Route is the fourth themed tour through Bünde and its surroundings. So far, the city of Bünde has issued the Farmer's Bath Cycling Route, the Tobacco Cycling Route, and the Monument Cycling Route. At the stations of the Climate Cycling Route, the focus is on climate change and the protection of our climate. The goal of climate protection is to reduce, and ideally stop, the speed and impacts of global warming, thus mitigating the consequences of warming such as rising sea levels due to melting sea ice and glaciers, increasing extreme weather events, the expansion of drought zones, and species extinction.
Primary approaches to climate protection include reducing greenhouse gas emissions, caused for example by energy consumption in road traffic. The bike-friendly city of Bünde focuses on climate-friendly local mobility with environmentally friendly modes of transport. The use of renewable energies for energy generation, such as through wind turbines or photovoltaics, offers a significant reduction in the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide compared to fossil fuels. Energy savings also contribute to climate protection, as seen in the Passive Sports Hall in the Northern School Complex, which consumes only 15 kilowatt hours per square meter per year. Furthermore, climate protection involves the targeted expansion of forests, wetlands, or river floodplains that absorb the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide. Examples along the Climate Cycling Route include the renaturation of the Gewinghauser Bach, the Elseaue Nature Reserve, and reforestation on Stauffenbergstrasse. The Climate Cycling Route is a circular route of approximately 33 kilometers in length. It starts at the bike station at Bünde train station. There, information boards provide general and current information about cycling in Bünde, as well as details on events and activities. The Climate Cycling Route first leads to the Werfer Bruch and then around the Bünder city center through the districts of Werfen, Ahle, Ennigloh, Spradow, Südlengern, Bustedt, and Hunnebrock, with detours to the municipalities of Kirchlengern and Hiddenhausen.
