CulTour Enger

The KulTour Enger is a historically and culturally guided city tour of only 5.5 kilometers in length, which leads to the most important historical and cultural sites in the city center of the Widukindstadt. The main focus here is on the museums of the small town as well as historically interesting buildings.
The starting and ending point of the KulTour is the Barmeierplatz in the center of Enger. In the immediate vicinity are the Widukind Museum and the collegiate church from the 14th century with the tombstone of Widukind and a precious carved altarpiece. The route then leads out of the center via Nordhofstraße to Nordhof, one of the 5 remaining Sattelmeier farms in the Enger area. There are various explanations for the origin of the term "Sattelmeier". Possibly it stems from the fact that the owners of the farms had to provide a saddled horse in times of war. The Sattelmeier farms are probably the oldest farms in the region and today belong to the largest farms in the Ravensberger Land. From here, the route runs along the outskirts for a while, before turning back towards the center. Here, the Kleinbahn Museum and the Tannery Museum are reached in quick succession, inviting visitors on a journey into the heyday of narrow-gauge railways in Bielefeld and the district of Herford, as well as the history of leather production in Enger. The route then describes a southern loop through Enger. Following the Windmühlenweg, after a short detour, the Liesberg Windmill, the landmark of Enger, can be reached.
At the southernmost point of the circuit is the Elsternbusch monument from 1913, which commemorates the end of the French occupation in 1813. From here, the route leads back towards the center via Kessel- and Mühlenstraße in a straight line. Just before reaching the starting point at Barmeierplatz again, the May meadow at Bolldammbach invites you to take a break. Despite the route passing through the center of Enger, almost exclusively asphalted side streets with very low traffic are used. The tour is very flat, making it suitable for families with children overall.
