On this hiking tour, you will experience diverse nature paired with half-timbered charm and Eifel culture in Blankenheim. The approximately 16-kilometer circular hike around the Eifel village of Blankenheim starts with a small curiosity: In the cellar of a half-timbered house from 1726, the Ahr River springs! The well room is visible from the outside. From the source, the Ahr flows through Blankenheim through a masonry channel below Blankenheim Castle and then runs through the romantic Ahr Valley. It finally flows into the Rhine after 89 kilometers at Sinzig.
You will hike on narrow paths through the Upper Ahr nature reserve and follow the still young Ahr River. The soothing scent of the forest and wild herb meadows as well as the sound of water will accompany you. Those who are out early can enjoy a dreamy sunrise at the numerous viewpoints on the tour. Part of the circular hike follows the AhrSteig, Eifelsteig, and the historic Brotpfad. On the Brotpfad, bread from surrounding villages was transported for sale to Blankenheim.
