Especially in spring or autumn, the mountain range with its diverse coniferous and deciduous forests, wild plants, and animals offers very picturesque motifs. The Wiehengebirge has been part of the Terra Vita Nature Park "Northern Teutoburg Forest / Wiehengebirge" since 1962. Since 2015, the Wiehengebirge has been awarded the UNESCO Global Geopark designation by UNESCO.
