From the spa park in Unna-Königsborn to the "Kütfelsen" in Salzkotten, there is a lot to see along the Hellweg about the topic of salt. The three spas Bad Sassendorf, Bad Waldliesborn, and Bad Westernkotten offer many health treatments related to brine and moor. The influence of salt production and the Erbsälzer families on the development of the towns is shown by the historical town centers in Werl and Soest. With its few inclines, the Westphalian Salt Route is an easy route primarily leading over paved agricultural roads away from the main roads or over cycle paths next to the streets. Along the way, numerous catering establishments invite you to stop and linger. The landscape of the Hellweg-Börde is characterized by vast open fields, rows of trees along the paths, and small agriculturally shaped villages. The Hellweg refers to the old trade route between Duisburg and Paderborn on the road from Aachen to Goslar. Trade goods on the road included salt from the area around Soest, Werl, and Unna, as well as iron goods such as knives and scissors from the Sauerland. Goods from the Hellweg were distributed throughout the entire Hanseatic region. More information at www.westfaelische-salzroute.de
