Wadrilltal Tafeltour

Through extensive woodland, fields and meadows, the hike leads into the Engbach and Wadrill valleys, surprises with magnificent views over the wooded heights of the northern Saarland and leads to secluded rest areas. In the Wadrill valley, you can take a detour to Grimburg or Hochwaldalm!

Away from the village, a meadow path runs between pastures and marshy grassland. Small sections of forest follow, then meadow paths again and at some point you are in the forest heading towards Felsenberg. There you will find tan hedge forests. A cool, shady forest path leads into the Wadrill valley. On the way, the tower of Grimburg Castle appears on the other side of the valley.On arrival in the valley, the trail continues parallel to the slope above the Wadrill, sometimes slightly uphill, sometimes slightly downhill. Later, a steep path climbs upwards in serpentines. Once there, the trail descends again into the Gothbachtal valley. After crossing the stream, there is a longer ascent in the forest. You then leave the stream valley. It is not far to the Nazareth Chapel on the edge of the forest above Wadrill. Just a few meters away are the first houses of the village, which was first mentioned in 981 as Waderola (hasty water) in a document of the Archbishop of Trier. On the way towards Sitzerath, there is a bench on the edge of the meadow. There is a wonderful view to the southwest over the wooded hills. Shortly before Sitzerath, a meadow path with orchard trees winds its way towards the destination. The Koderbach and Lohbach streams have to be crossed along the way.The trail has been awarded 63 experience points by the German Hiking Institute.
