Weiten-Gesäß is located away from the traffic in the middle of the forest in a large cleared clearing. The hiking trail was named after the numerous shelters (not managed!) along the way, which offer protection from the weather and picnic areas. The trail passes Eulbach Hunting Lodge and Eulbach Park with numerous animal enclosures and Roman relics. The park can be visited.
Way description:
The hike starts at the "Kindergarten" bus stop on bus route 41 in the village street of Weiten-Gesäß. At the kindergarten, our hiking trail with the marking WG 4 comes from above from the Kronenweg. We follow the markings on the village road, walk past the fountain and after a few meters turn right onto the Kirchpfad, which leads us past the water treading pool up to the Ablonehütte and on to the "Weiten-Gesäßer Höhe" parking lot. Before turning left into the forest at an acute angle, we look down on Weiten-Gesäß once again. On natural forest paths, we soon reach the hunting lodge and via the Kornberg we reach Forsthaus Silvan and continue to the B 47 (Nibelungenstraße).
Here we have the opportunity to walk to the entrance of Eulbacher Park. In the park on the other side of the road is the Eulbach hunting lodge of the Counts of Erbach-Erbach, which was laid out as an "English landscape garden" between 1802 and 1807. A pond with a neo-Gothic island chapel, an artificial castle ruin, the Eberhardsburg, and the Roman monuments collected by Count Franz I zu Erbach-Erbach, such as the gate of the Eulbach fort, have been erected in the park. The animal park is home to bison, mouflon, fallow deer, red deer and wild boar. There is also a playground for children. The park is open all year round from 10:00 - 17:00. The "Forsthaus Eulbach" restaurant in the parking lot opposite invites you to stop for a bite to eat.
We continue our hike on the B 47, where we left the WG 4 marker. The Müllersweg trail leads us through the count's game reserve over the 449 m high Katzenbuckel (not to be confused with the highest Odenwald mountain of the same name) to the Zuckerbuckelhütte. Shortly before, at the point where the path leads us out of the forest, Weiten-Gesäß lies at our feet in the valley. From the hut, we continue downhill to the beginning of the village. Above the road just behind the small substation, the path turns right and leads us down to the stream in the old Grund. Along the stream we reach the Schimmelshütte and at the hut in the old ground our path turns left up to the dog sports field. Now it's not far to the first houses and the final stop at the "Zur Krone" inn, just a few meters before the kindergarten.
