Basilika-Rundweg

Varied circular hike across meadows and fields with gentle climbs. The path also briefly leads through the forest. We pass springs, a small lake and the Rehbach stream. The cultural and historical highlights are the crowning glory: the Einhard basilica dating back to 819 and the fairytale Fürstenau Castle.

Way description:
From the parking lot at the basilica, we follow the S4 markings uphill along the Höhenstraße. At the edge of the forest, we pass the Saubuche refuge. It is worth taking a look back here for a wonderful view of Michelstadt. Behind the hut, we turn left and continue along the forest path to the Einhard spring. At the Einhardquelle refuge, the path leads us south.

We cross the B47 and reach the "Großer See" lake. The slag remains lying around are from a medieval blast furnace that was in operation here until 1578. The route continues uphill through the forest to the Achtbuchen forester's lodge. The forest soon opens up and surprises us with a wonderful view down into the Steinbach and Mümling valleys. The route continues through orchards to the other side of the Steinbach. After a short climb up to Adalberts Höhe, we hike back downhill towards our starting point.
