Hubenweg Würzberg

On old paths, you hike around the open heights of Würzberg, a classic hub village. The route is varied and takes you across fields, along the edges of forests and through several wooded areas. Along the way, you will come across traces of the former Roman fort. The ruins of the Roman baths are a good example of the bathing culture of the former world power.

Way description:
From the "Adlerschlag" hiking parking lot, you first hike along the edge of the forest down into the hamlet. Before entering the forest, the path takes a right turn and leads past the Lochbrunnen fountain. About one kilometer later, there is another bend to the right. This is the old "Mainweg". At the junction with the "Heuweg", the path goes downhill for a short distance.

After about 800 meters through the forest, there is a bend to the right. Continue for about 1200 meters towards the southern part of Würzberg. Shortly before reaching the road "Zur Heinstermühle", turn sharp left and walk deeper into the forest again. At the Hessian-Bavarian border, the path turns almost 180 degrees. After about 800 meters, the trail heads east again. In one kilometer you will have reached the Bavarian border again. Now follow this for about one and a half kilometers in a southwesterly direction.

The old "Mühlweg" then leads you out of the forest. Turn left onto district road 45 and follow it to the parking lot. Leave the road again here and walk through the forest to the Limesweg. Keep to the right so as not to miss the Roman baths.

The route now leads to the cemetery along an old Roman trade route - the "Hohe Straße". Behind the cemetery, turn left and leave the Limes hiking trail. 150 meters after entering the forest, the path turns right. Now you walk a leisurely one and a half kilometers back to your starting point.
