The Spessart trail starts in Somborn and leads through the wide fields to the edge of the forest. The trail runs along the Spessart bend for a while. Past the Somborn bird sanctuary, there is a great view of the hilly landscape. The trail continues through the Schottengrund to Birkenhainer Straße, the old trade route that ran from Hanau to Gemünden. First, along the state border, the Spessart trail then runs downhill again, past the memorial cross at the Kohlplatte at the barbecue and playground to arrive back at the portal.
