Rund ums "Bautzener Meer" - Tour 1

From the tourist information office on the main market square, head towards the cathedral, Nicolaipforte and down the Nicolaistufen steps to the left over the bridge at the Hammermühle (with mill store), continue along Seidauer Straße keeping right, then straight on into Teichnitzer Straße in the Teichnitz district and continue along Stauseestraße to Neumalsitz and along the reservoir to Dahlowitz, where you turn right along the large dam wall. In Niedergurig, the Gottlobsberg offers views over the lake and the route continues past the Luther memorial to the Lubasberg and the impressive Spree outflow. Once you reach the beach promenade, it's worth taking a break to play mini golf, visit the climbing park or stop off at the Ocean Beach Bar. Head back towards Bautzen past the campsite, passing the district of Burk to the pedestrian bridge at Abgott, a pagan cult site where flint was once mined. After Oena, turn left again towards Teichnitz and then left into Mühlgäßchen, across the Spree and up Spreegasse to Schützenplatz, from where you can enjoy the view of the old town.
