This fairly easy and family-friendly tour follows the Spreeradweg logo. It first leads north out of Bautzen's old town, then south and east along Bautzen's reservoir after the new development area. At the forebay, towards the highway bridge, there is an old prehistoric cult site where flints were mined and the Sorbian Abgot Flinz is said to have stood.
After the small dam wall with its nature trail, it is worth stopping at Gottlobsberg: a small footpath leads up to the memorial hill, where there are monuments to Luther and the fallen of the World War as well as a view of Niedergurig. A nearby rest area offers views and seating. But we wanted to go a little further ...
A good place to stop is the venerable giant oak tree by the large brick pond. Barely 8 people, holding hands, are enough to embrace it. We take the same route back again, perhaps stopping once more at the beach promenade.
