Description by the author

Most people think that the famous Camino de Santiago only runs through France and Spain. But it is also possible to embark on one of the many pilgrim paths from Germany, whose endpoint is the tomb of the Apostle James in the Spanish Santiago de Compostela. One of these Ways of St. James - the Baltic-Westphalian Way - runs through Bremen, through Weyhe and on to Syke-Barrien.

The route can also be walked as a circular tour. The starting point is at Dreye train station:

1. Starting from the station, first cross the traffic lights and then turn left onto Dreyer Straße for about 650 meters. At the end of the cul-de-sac, turn right onto Gehrlandsweg. The path will take you through the grounds of the "Wiking-Faltbootwanderer Kirchweyhe e.V." Go left past the clubhouse and up the stairs to the dike. You are now on the Weserdeichwanderweg, which you will walk along to the right. After an industrial area, a charmingly quiet landscape with small bathing lakes, park benches inviting you to linger, and lots of nature will open up. Shortly before the railway bridge, you will find the first sign of the German St. James Society: Blue stickers with a yellow scallop shell will guide you along the approximately 15 km long Weyher Pilgrimage path section, indicating that you are on the right track.

2. Follow the Weserdeichwanderweg until you reach the street "Am Deich". Turn right there. Follow the street straight ahead, and you will automatically come to Kirchweyher Straße, which initially runs parallel to a small residential area and later along beautiful fields and meadows. Follow this street for about 1.6 km.

3. Shortly after crossing the Ochtum bridge, turn right onto the path "Koppel". In the further course, this path is called "An de Köppel".

4. After about 350 m, turn left onto the path "Zum Wittrocksee". Your way will now take you through the so-called Kirchweyher Kuhweide to the beautiful Wittrocksee. Here is the first stamp station on our route! The Scheunenmarkt Warneke. After a short break on the bench, you can continue... Stay on this path, which later becomes "Am Kuhzaun" and further on "Kleine Heide".

5. Once you reach the town center of Kirchweyhe, turn right onto Bahnhofstraße and immediately left onto Heidfeldweg. By the way, it's only a few hundred meters to Kirchweyhe train station from here. Follow Heidfeldweg to Ulmenstraße, where you turn left. At the end of the street, turn right for a short distance onto "Am Fuhrenkamp", which makes a bend to the left at the end and then continues to the right next to the school building of KGS Kirchweyhe.

6. Cross the main street and continue straight ahead onto "Am Neddernfeld". Here, the outdoor pool at Hache invites young and old to have fun swimming in the summer!

7. About 300 meters past the swimming pool, turn left to reach a field path that makes a right turn after about 150 meters. Now you will walk past fields and meadows for a while.

8. On the right side, you will discover a biotope at the edge of the path, which you will half circle. Past the "shooting range", you will return to the street "Am Neddernfeld". Turn left there.

9. After about 230 meters, you will reach Lahauser Straße. If you walk a short distance to the left, you will reach Bauer Brüning, where our second stamp station is located. A small farm shop here offers a fine selection of seasonal and regional products. Opposite the farm is the landmark of the Lahausen district: the Lahauser Spieker. From Bauer Brüning, turn right along the street, past the horse pension Niemeyer, and just behind the farm, turn left onto the field path. Follow this path straight ahead.

10. Here ends the Weyher Pilgrimage path section. Alternatively, you can return to our starting point at Dreye train station. To do this, please follow the marked routes (also blue). If you continue on this path, you will arrive in the Barrien district of the city of Syke (about 3 km). There is a train station here.

You can also find this tour on Komoot.

Safety instructions:
Throughout the entire tour, it is advisable to walk the paths at your own risk. No guarantee is provided for the usability of the paths. Increased attention is generally required in cities/towns. Hazards may be encountered on the tour, such as bollards, turnstile barriers, and unsecured crossings.
