Circular hike Bernau - Schönow - Bernau

From the more than 775-year-old city of Bernau near Berlin, you can walk along the Panke River through beautiful landscapes. In the 13th century, the Panke was once a raging river that carried huge amounts of water from melting glaciers all the way to Pankow and further into the Grunewald forest. It was from this water that the famous Bernauer Schwarzbier was brewed, known far beyond the country's borders.

Arrival/Departure:
By train: from Berlin with the RE3 (to Schwedt) to Bernau near Berlin (approx. 15 minutes).
By car: from Berlin via the B2 to Bernau near Berlin (approx. 45 minutes).
Directions: The hike starts at Bernau train station and leads along the Berlin-Usedom long-distance cycle path to Zepernick. This well-signposted path along the Panke River offers a hike through beautiful landscapes. From Zepernick S-Bahn station, follow the signs to Schönow, a district of Bernau near Berlin. In Schönow, along the village street, you can see residential houses with richly decorated stucco facades from the founding period and Art Nouveau, as well as barns and outbuildings made of brick from around 1900. The fieldstone church on the village green is idyllically surrounded by old resting places and tall trees. After exploring all the sights in Schönow, return to Bernau via Mittelstraße and Mainstraße.
