The old town of Zittau invites you to linger. To get to Oybin, leave the town in a southerly direction. The path is always straight and leads through a magnificent avenue of poplars to the mountains. The first highlight is the pottery. The landscape is transformed in one fell swoop. Bizarre rocks, gnarled paths, magnificent views. The Scharfenstein is a special attraction with its steep ascent and panoramic views. Hikers will be amazed by the rocky lane and the beautifully curved Kelchstein. The Oybin monastery ruins are a perfect symbiosis of nature and culture. Directly at the foot of and along the ascent to Oybin Castle & Monastery is another gem, the baroque mountain church (wedding church).
A little tip: use the Zittau narrow-gauge railroad as a tourist must to avoid the tough routes around Zittau!
