With its 163 hectares, Radgendorf is the smallest district of Mittelherwigsdorf, both in terms of area and its population of just under 130.
The village is located to the left of the B99 between Zittau and Hirschfelde. Radgendorf is bordered by the Fröschelbach to Eckartsberg and the Scheidebach to Wittgendorf.
The place name (Radeck) is a Slavic-German mixed name and, like the village layout and land form, points to the joint development of the land by Slavs and Germans and the existence of a pre-German settlement - a Slavic roundel.
The springs around Radgendorf appear to have been more important in earlier times, as the Cölestin monks had a pond built on the Oybin at the Scheidebach stream southwest of Radgendorf as early as 1506 to supply a mill with water.
