On this tour, the Romans are constantly present. You start at Xanten station and cycle past the LVR-Archaeological Park on the tree-lined cycle path. Here is the entrance to the park "Roman Museum", but remember: you should plan about 3 hours for the "APX"! The route continues along the former railway line "Boxteler Bahn" to Labbeck. On the small village square, you will see a section of a Roman water pipe. The route continues past the forest and across the fields towards Sonsbeck. From junction 49, it goes steeply downhill, but do not roll too fast and enjoy the special landscape! Along the Philosopher's Path (=bumpy forest path), head towards Birten to the amphitheater. Further up on the Fürstenberg ("listening experience" to Castra Veterea), you should briefly turn left: here was the legionary camp "Castra Vetera". Before turning right to the Cross Chapel, you should make another short detour to the left: an impressive view of St. Viktor's Cathedral and the Roman Museum is worth it! The route continues downhill in a relaxed manner through suburbs and the Xanten South Sea back to the city and the station.
