Keer-Tröch-Weg

Enjoy the lush and diverse nature of the Lower Rhine, immerse yourself in Wesel's culture, and cross the Rhine in front of the gates of the important Roman city of Xanten. What sounds like the diverse program of a vacation week can be experienced by cyclists in one day on the Keer-Tröch-Weg. The idyllic bike tour, with a length of just under 25 kilometers, shows the region at its most beautiful.
The starting point of the tour is the Wesel Rhine promenade with a great view of the river and ample parking. Cycling enthusiasts arriving without their own bike can rent the striking green, modern Lower Rhine bike at the nearby Welcome Hotel – also available as an e-bike if desired. From there, it goes to the Wesel Citadel. Once built to protect the Rhine crossing, it now houses a number of cultural institutions such as the music and art school of the city of Wesel or artist studios.
Across the modern, imposing Lower Rhine bridge, you reach the other side of the Rhine to the remains of the old railway bridge, which was destroyed in World War II and symbolizes the military-strategic importance of the Hanseatic city. Nearby, the Pettenkaul water playground awaits as a highlight for the little riders. Located on the shore of a gravel pit lake, the playground revolves around the theme of water, fitting perfectly into the route.
After a short detour to the pilgrimage village of Ginderich, the path leads back to the dike. Here, there is a magnificent view of the Rhine and the Bislicher Insel nature reserve. The Keer Tröch passenger ferry allows you to cross the river, and then continue cycling back along the Rhine and the unique floodplain landscape to Wesel.
