Numerous secrets and legends surround the ruins of Hohenwaldeck Castle above Fischhausen and Schliersee: is there really a treasure up there? Why was the castle abandoned so suddenly in the 15th century? And what is the castle ghost all about?

Reason enough to climb up to the ruins yourself. On the direct ascent from Fischhausen-Neuhaus, the 'History and Nature Trail to Hohenwaldeck Castle Ruins' has recently been added!

Numerous information boards provide all kinds of interesting facts about the castle ruins, the region and the flora and fauna - boredom is out of the question! The 200 meters in altitude and approx. 30 minutes of walking time are guaranteed to fly by and once you reach the top, the most beautiful view of Lake Schliersee will reward you for your efforts!

The adventure trail starts in Fischhausen on the southern shore of Lake Schliersee. Near the Schnapperwirt inn, the hiking trail branches off to the right up to the castle ruins. If you still feel like it, you can follow the path further and hike via Oberleiten and Unterleiten to Schliersee.

For hikers who want to start from Schliersee (Unterleiten parking lot or at the mini golf course), the signposted hiking trail leads via Unterleiten and Oberleiten to the Hohenwaldeck castle ruins. There you meet the 'History and Nature Trail' again.

No matter how you approach the circular route - there are various attractive options for the way back to Fischhausen or Schliersee: You can either hike back to the starting point on one of the two sides of the lake! There are always plenty of worthwhile places to stop for refreshments, such as the Schnapperwirt, the Bartlbauer, the Rixner-Alm or the Cafe Kögl. In summer, the return trip on the 'Schliersee 3' motorboat is also an attractive alternative.
