Zur Gabeleiche

An ideal circular route for families with baby carriages, even if there are a few meters of altitude to conquer.

The "Zur Gabeleiche" trail starts at the Altdorf sports ground. After a few meters back in the direction of Altdorf, the actual circular route begins at the "Schönbuchrand" allotment site, which is signposted in both directions. Initially, the trail leads through meadows and fields with numerous orchards, no matter which direction you choose.

Further on, the conditions are the same: as soon as you reach the forest, the trail climbs uphill until you reach the Bromberg plateau. Here you follow the path for a longer stretch on a straight, level path.

Along the route, you will come across several "sights", both small, initially inconspicuous ones, such as overgrown boundary stones. But also large ones such as the two natural monuments "Gabeleiche" and "Sulzackereiche".

They have a lot to offer the observer if you take the time to look at the trees in peace and quiet. The mighty fork that gave the Gabeleiche its name is fascinating. In the immediate vicinity of the Gabeleiche is the Eselstritt. The bench and the memorial stone commemorating the 800th anniversary of the municipality of Altdorf are clearly visible. If you look a little closer, you can see a small hoof print, the donkey's footprint, carved into a stone in the ground. The mighty old oaks in the Altdorf forest lend the walk a venerable flair at any time of year.On the Bromberg plateau, there is also a spectacular view of the Schönbucht Tower. However, you have to leave the "Tübinger Weg" for a short while at an aisle to be able to enjoy this view.
