Geologischer Lehrpfad Kirnbach

On 2 June 2017, the educational trail, which is marked with dinosaurs and is around five kilometers long (around two hours' walk), was reopened to curious visitors.

Along a total of 13 stations, the geology of the area is explained in a clear and interesting way. You can also learn interesting facts about the past and present importance of the Schönbuch for people.

A new feature is that the boards are linked to the Schönbuch app (from the software development company Sascha Silbe) via QR codes. The smartphone not only helps with navigation, the Schönbuch app can also be used to call up in-depth content at the individual stations.

The Kirnbach Valley between Tübingen and Bebenhausen offers a special insight into the landscape history and geology of the Keuperbergland.

Along an easy hike, 13 stations explain geological features and the formation of the landscape using outstanding outcrops and landforms. All strata from the Variegated Marls (Steigerwald Formation) to the Rhätsandstein (Exter Formation, Tübingen Sandstone) are covered.

In addition, special fossil finds from this famous region are also presented: Did you know that dinosaurs lived in Bebenhausen over 200 million years ago? The exciting climatic history of the Keuper is explained and used as an example to illustrate the detective work of the geosciences. Visitors will also learn about the past and present significance of the Schönbuch for humans.

The section of the route through the Olga Grove, a landscaped garden dating back to 1870 with attractive seating niches and moss-covered stones, is particularly idyllic.

Both at the top of the Olga Grove and at the parking lot, there is a barbecue area with a rest stop.
