Panoramaweg Sankt Wendeler Land Etappe 5

The Sankt Wendeler Land panoramic trail offers pure enjoyment of the landscape and nature for almost 127 kilometers. Hikers experience a varied low mountain range landscape with a charming alternation of wooded hills and open cultural landscape and enjoy impressive viewpoints along the way.

The Panorama Trail is divided into 6 stages.

Stage 5 (Tholey - Marpingen, approx. 17 km)

The starting point of stage 5 is the parking lot of the Herzweg trail on the Schaumberg in Tholey. At an altitude of 560 m, you hike past the Africa Chapel and enjoy wonderful views of the Hunsrück heights and western Saarland. In Bergweiler, it is worth visiting the Blasius Chapel, which was built in the 13th century and was the pilgrimage church of Tholey Abbey. We pass the steel sculpture "Wortsegel" by Heinrich Popp.

At the foot of the Himmelsberg, the route continues past a pond and through the Engscheid forest. Through idyllic forest and meadow paths with great views of the Schaumberg and Tholey, you reach Marpingen with its glider airfield. The destination of this stage of the hike is the Marian shrine in Härtelwald. This pilgrimage site with its spring attracts thousands of visitors every year.</p
