Panoramaweg Sankt Wendeler Land Etappe 3

The Sankt Wendeler Land panoramic trail offers pure enjoyment of the landscape and nature for almost 127 kilometers. Hikers experience a varied low mountain range landscape with a charming alternation of wooded hills and open cultural landscape and enjoy impressive viewpoints along the way.

The Panorama Trail is divided into 6 stages.

Stage 3 (Bostalsee - Nonnweiler, approx. 20 km)

The 20 km stage starts at the tourist information office on Lake Bostal. You walk a short distance along the lake circular trail, past the Bosener Mühle mill and leave the circular trail in the direction of Eckelhausen. You walk through Eckelhausen over the Priesberg to Sötern and Eisen, where the Bostalsee golf course is located. The foothills of the Hunsrück are clearly visible along the former barite mine and at the foot of the 624 m high Weißelfels. You soon come across the stone walls of the Celtic ring wall. Popularly known as the "Hunnenring", it was built around 60 BC by the Celtic Treveri for protection against the Romans and is still 12 m high in the area of the northern rampart. It is well worth a visit, where you can enjoy a great view in addition to the historical information. At the foot of the rampart is the open-air museum Keltenpark Otzenhausen, a Celtic village built according to historical models with 10 houses and a wooden palisade.

The Nonnweiler dam holds 20 million cubic meters of water. The 12 km long circular trail offers charming landscapes as well as an educational planetary trail, which is part of the circular lake trail. Along its 5.6 km, the planets of our solar system are impressively depicted and explained as scale models (1: 1 billion). At the dam, you now walk to Nonnweiler, where the Hubertus Cathedral, the destination of today's hike, is located. Afterwards, you can visit St. Hubert's Cathedral, which was a pilgrimage church for people who hoped to be healed by cauterizing their wounds with the "Hubertus key".
