Jossataler Höhentour

Querberg, Hutsberg, Lernhöhe, Hatgesberg, Hohe Sohl, Egelberg and Beilstein are prominent elevations that characterize the Jossatal between Oberndorf and Lettgenbrunn. Asphalted sections, farm tracks and some trail sections determine the characteristics of the route. After the start in Oberndorf, the tour leads quite quickly up to the heights of the Jossatal. From here, the route follows more or less the same contour line. The "high-altitude tour" is interrupted by a detour to the Kneipp facility in Pfaffenhausen. After a welcome refreshment, the tour leads back up to the heights and to Birkenhainer Strasse. This was a medieval military and trade route between Rhine Franconia and East Franconia. It connected Hanau with Gemünden am Main over a distance of approx. 70 km and thus shortened the route along the Main quadrangle by crossing the north-western foothills of the Spessart. The route leads past Hatgesberg and Lernhöhe to Hohe Sohl. The rich oak population in this section of the route is a historical witness to the Spessart. In the 19th century, the processing of oak bark as a tanning agent for leather production was an important source of income for the inhabitants of the Flörsbach valley. After circling the Hohe Sohl, the route continues over the heights between the Flörsbach valley and the Jossa valley, including a short trail to the Jossgrund golf course (watch out for flying balls) at the end of the Jossa valley. The circuit is rewarded with a short but great trail that leads to Beilstein at the end. Here, too, a short trail section awaits mountain bikers. At the end of the village of Lettgenbrunn, the route climbs one last time to one of the many heights of the Jossatal and is rewarded with a magnificent view, which in good weather extends over the Spessart to the Rhön. The route now leads back from Pfaffenhausen to Oberndorf on the "Perlen der Jossa" cycle path.
